投手は9番目の野手 MLB公式の“超美技”動画が凄い
160キロの直球、異次元の変化を見せる変化球……見るものを魅了する投手というポジション。だが、投げ終えた後は9人目の野手としてプレーすることになる。MLB公式ツイッターは「投手の守備練習が報われる時……」と題し、これまで投手が見せてきた美技動画を公開している。 まずはじめに登場するのはホワイトソックス時代のマーク・バーリー。2009年には完全試合を達成し通算214勝、ゴールドグラブ賞を4度獲得した“名手”が見せたビッグプレーだ。強烈な打球を左足でヒールキックすると、一塁ファールゾーンに転がったボールをグラブで捕球し“股抜きトス”で一塁に送球しアウトを奪った。
その他にもヤンキースのジョバ・チェンバレンが絶妙なタイミングで飛び込んだ“ダイビングキャッチ併殺”、フィリーズの両投げビンス・ベラスケスが強烈なライナーを右腕に受けながら、転がったボールを左手で一塁へ送球しアウトを奪った“スイッチスロー”など数々の美技が特集されている。
投げるだけではなく好守を見せる姿にファンも歓喜の声を挙げている。
